Wholewheat Meat pie

Hi guys.  How are you all doing?

Today I’m making a favourite small chops appetizer.

Meat pie is one of the major sort after essential at any party. I dont know why it makes a difference at a party, but apparently it does make a difference.  so hey. 🙂

When making the pastry,  you have to be careful not to make it too hard or too dry or else it will come out like biscuit crumbs.

Lets begin

INGREDIENTS :

2 cups of Wheat flour
Half a cup Plain flour
250g of Butter
1 cup of Water
1 large Egg
Onions
1 tablespoon of Oil
1 pack of Minced meat
2 large Potatoes
Carrots (if you fancy)
Salt to taste
1 Stock cube
1 tablespoon Thyme

UTENSILS :

Chopping board
Rolling pin
Fork
Knife
Pastry brush
Whisk or wooden spoon

Heat up the oil, add the onions and fry until golden brown. Add the minced meat and fey until it turns dark. Then add the chopped potatoes. Add a little bit of water, stock cube, salt and thyme, , reduce the heat and let it cook for about 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, mix the 2 tablespoons of flour with water, add it to the beef. You will notice that the mixture becomes somewhat solidified.  This helps the beef to stay moist while baking.

After 3 minutes, remove from the cooker and set aside.

Wash your hands thoroughly before you begin.  Wipe it clean with either a kitchen towel or napkin.

Next measure the flour (s) add the baking powder and salt. Whisk the ingredients together.

Next add butter and this time rub it in gently into the flour mixture. Keep rubbing it together until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Then make a well in the middle of the mixture and add water gradually, gently mixing until all the water has been used up and it forms a soft but firm dough.

Let it sit for about 5 minutes. Next flour your chopping board,  gently knead the dough again. Cut out a medium sized piece, but watch it though.  After the rolling and filling, it may become wide. So make sure its semi mediim in size (see picture)

Dust the rolling pin with flour, roll out the dough until you get a circle.  Add the filling to the middle, take top part of the dough and join it to the end part. Ensure it is well sealed.

Cut out (if any excess dough around the edges) and then use a fork design to seal it properly.

Do this repeatedly until you are done with al the dough.

Then use the pastry brush to brush the whisked egg all over the pastry.  Do this for all of the pastry.

Finally poke the pastry in three places (this is totally up to you, its not always necessary)

Place it in the oven and bake for 35 minutes.

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool down for 5 minutes

Well done!

Now its ready to be served.  Enjoy with a cup of tea like me or just any other drink that you like.

Thats it from me.

Love Duchess O
