Hello everyone. Hope you are all doing great today?
I have here today ASÚN. Now this recipe has always been one of my favourite recipe to blog about, but then it keeps getting usurped by another recipe. Until one day I said no, today it has to be done.
I served this delicious treat with my coconut Moin Moin check out the recipe.
ASÚN is popular at parties. It’s the treat that is usually being eaten after all the party Rush has gone down and everyone’s just relaxing and chatting. ASÚN is best made with Goat meat. Goat meat Hausa different taste to cow meat. So if you want to really enjoy what the rave is all about, you need goat meat.
Ok let’s get started shall we 🙂
Small tatatshe (optional for those who want it less spicy)
1 tablespoon of oil
Medium sized pot
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 45 minutes (if your meat has been pre cooked)
Or 1 hour: 55 minutes (cooking time)
If your meat has been cooked, just proceed to the next stage
Next stage: place the meat in a grilling pan or baking tray. Lined with foil. Grill for 25 minutes. Not more than that or else it will be too dry. (Use medium grill heat)
Next roughly chop up the peppers and onions in a blender or food processor. See picture
Next heat the oil in the frying pan. Add the chopped peppers and onions.
Sauté for 15 minutes. Constantly stirring. Once done set aside
In the first 10 minutes while its sautéing add 1 tablespoon of the meat stock. This is to enhance the flavour a bit more. You can add two spoons if you prefer.
Check on the meat, once the time is up, remove it form the grill.
Place the sautéed sauce back on fire, add the grilled meat and mix together to ensure its well incorporated.
Reduce the heat. Sauté for 10 minutes. So that it doesn’t overfly. We just need it to blend well.
That’s it. All done. How amazingly easy was that.
It’s ready to be served. You can serve this with a chilled non alcoholic drink (this is my preference)
I will see you all in my next post.
