Almond Egusi

Hi guys. Hope you are all doing good? So this recipe has been recreated. I have prepared this before, but made it with spinach. And now this one I have made without. So there is a distinctive difference to both

Almonds have been used for various things, milk, flour, chewed as a snack. Almonds has various health benefits. Read below

1. They reduce heart attack risk.

Those who consume nuts five times a week have about a 50 percent reduction in risk of heart attack according to the Loma Linda School of Public Health.
2. They lower ‘bad’ cholesterol.

Almonds added to the diet have a favorable effect on blood cholesterol levels, according to a clinical study by Dr. Gene Spiller, Director of the Health Research and Studies Center, Inc.
3. They protects artery walls from damage.

It was found that the flavonoids in almond skins work in synergy with the vitamin E, thus reducing the risk of heart disease (Research at Tufts University).
4. Almonds help build strong bones and teeth. The phosphorus in almonds helps make this possible.
5. They provide healthy fats and aid in weight loss:
Although nuts are high in fat, frequent nut eaters are thinner on average than those who almost never consume nuts. (Data from the Nurses’ Health Study)

Those who ate nuts at least two times per week were 31 percent less likely to gain weight than were those who never or seldom ate them in a study involving 8865 adults. (WHFood’s article on almonds)

6. Almonds lower the rise in blood sugar and insulin after meals.

7. They help provide good brain function.

Almonds contain riboflavin and L-carnitine, nutrients that boost brain activity and may also reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
8. They nourish the nervous system.According to Ayurveda, almonds help increase high intellectual level and longevity.
9. They alkalize the body.

Almonds are the only nut and one of the few proteins that are alkaline forming. When your body is not alkaline enough, you risk osteoporosis, poor immune function, low energy and weight gain.

Almond is healthy, so I thought why not introduce it to our own local ingredients and make it into a superb meal.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring now does it 😊

Ok, let’s get started shall we 🙂

INGREDIENTS:

Ground almonds

1 large tatashe

3 atarodo

Iru

Dried fish

Smoked crayfish

Assorted meats

Smoked turkey (optional)

UTENSILS:

2 medium sized pot

Wooden spoon
Prep time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: tbc

Method:

Wash the meats and boil with salt and blended onions. Do not use curry and thyme to cook the meats!

Next cook the pepper for about 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes add the dried fish and smoked crayfish. Cook for 15 minutes

Next add the Iru and a little bit of stock. Allow it to permeate the stew for about 6 minutes

Next add the ground Almonds and mix. It will be thick, but that’s fine, the stock will loosen it up nicely.

This is what it Lols like after adding the stock.

Allow it to cook for 20 minutes. Trust me by that time you won’t be able to tell the difference. It tasted like Egusi Ijebu only this time with Almonds. It’s was really yummy!

See it bubbling away. After 20 minutes, take it off th heat and it’s ready to be served

Here you go!

Doesn’t that look amazing? Try it out and let me know what you think. I will be using almonds again to make something even more delicious. Watch out😉

That’s it’s from me today.

I will see you all in my next post.

Love Duchess O
