Hi guys.
Hope your weekend has been great? So I promised to treat you guys to my some special twist for Christmas menus.
Sweet and sour is a dish that I love.
I have always wondered how they made it, but never bothered to find out, until one day.
Ever since then, I made up my mind to always create my takeout favourites at home.
And the good thing about it is that you can control the calories and contents. Happy days! 😊
I wanted to do something different from the usual gizdodo which is a popular dish at weddings and parties. I thought why not combine it and see. I love testing recipes and I must admit I loved it. It was a refreshing change. I promise you would love it too.
I always try to push myself to be better and day by day, I am getting more creative ideas on dishes. So Watchout. 2016 would see lots and lots of changes and surprises 🙂
Ok let’s get started shall we
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Total time: 25 minutes
INGREDIENTS:

- 2tablespoons of vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 3/4 cup of water
- 2 tablespoons of brown or demarera sugar or honey
- 2 tablespoons of corn flour
- 1 tablespoon of water (to mix the corn flour)
- 1 red pepper
- I green pepper
- 1 yellow pepper
- 3 medium sized plantain
- 1/4 a cup of pineapple or orange juice
UTENSILS:

- Frying pan
- Wooden spoon
Prep time: 10 minutes
The above will serve 4 people.
Method:
Cut the plantain into cube sizes
Heat up the oil and fry the plantain until golden brown.
Next Cut up your peppers into small squares.
To make the sweet and sour sauce,
combine all the remaining ingredients (vinegar, water, ketchup, soy sauce, and sugar, orange juice or pineapple juice) and let it boil for 8 minutes
Mix the corn flour with 1 tablespoon of water (This is to ensure that the corn flour does not form lumps in the sauce)
Next add the mixed cornflour to the sauce, stirring all the time. Continue to cook until it is semi thick.
Once it’s cooked and thickened.Add the sliced peppers And reduce the heat.
Finally add the fried plantain and cook so that the plantain absorbs the sauce for 5 minutes on medium heat.
Turn off the heat and plate it up. Serve with boiled plain rice, Jollof rice, fried rice or any rice of your choice.
Enjoy!

Hi Ada. Thank you. I used distilled malt vinegar. If you can’t get that, just use a plain distilled vinegar. 😀

Hi Ada. I used dark soy sauce, but you can use light for less sodium. The corn flour was added after I booked the sauce. It’s in the post. X
